What is the PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) treatment?
Blood plasma comes from our own blood. It is the watery, liquid portion of whole blood. Our blood contains red, white blood cells and platelets. All of them are produced by the bone marrow. They are all suspended in the plasma and circulate in our vessels and are distributed all over the body. Platelets are microscopic blood cells that during the injury cause blood to clot and provide other necessary growth factors for healing functions.
Our platelets play a key role in the natural body’s healing process, not only the clotting process but also in the immune response and angiogenesis (creating of new vessels). By processing the blood in a high-speed level centrifuge, we can concentrate and extract platelets that are suspended in the plasma part of the blood – that is how we get our own body’s health elixir: PRP (platelet-rich plasma).
PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) is extracted by use of a much slower speed centrifuge, and it contains more of the red blood cells elements. PRF is used mostly for orthopedics injection, sometimes for esthetics as well, however from my personal experience RBC may leave discoloration under the skin, therefore I advise my patients to use PRP on the facial areas instead.

How do PRP and PRF work in the tissues?
